Welcome Baby Doc!

Wow… what a couple of weeks it has been! Right on the heels of saying goodbye to our favorite Martin cat, we welcomed our son into our lives.

Baby Doc was born on Friday, Oct 18. He weighed in at 8 pounds even, and was 19 inches long. Frankly, we expected him to be closer to 10 pounds. He was almost a runt! Winking smile

Labor was relatively uneventful, and went even smoother after I got that fantastic epidural! (Better living through chemistry!) Unfortunately for me, after a full day of labor (the whole process started at about 3:00 in the morning), I ended up needing to have a C-section. Surgery was uneventful – just how you want every surgery to go – and a very healthy (and loud) Baby Doc was delivered that night!

He is pretty darn cute, and we think we’ll keep him!

He has been a pretty good baby… we really can’t complain too much. He doesn’t like to sleep by himself from about 11pm-3am… so Farmer Doc has been spending some quality time in the recliner with him in the wee hours of the morning.

Baby Doc and Farmer Doc
I think that vet school, internship, and residency have really prepared Farmer Doc and me for all the late nights, the middle of the night feedings, and the early mornings. We already had some serious practice in waking up in the middle of the night and having to be ready to go. Sitting up in a chair for a middle of the night feeding is nothing compared to treating a colicky horse!

happy halloween
Baby Doc was “Cowboy Doc” for Halloween… how cute is this kid?!?

The hardest part of everything has been breast feeding. More on this to come in a future post… Suffice it to say that if I was a dairy cow, I would no longer be welcome in this herd! (I’m having some production issues. We’re trying to work through it, and giving him plenty of formula in the meantime. This kid is an eater!!)

We couldn’t be more thrilled (or in love!) to have Baby Doc finally here.

Life has changed a bit more than I expected around here, so I have gotten a lot less blogging (and cooking, and cleaning, and laundry) done than I was hoping. Baby Doc loves to be held, and it can be hard to get some “alone time” during the day!

For those of you who played “Guess the Date and Weight” with me… there were tons of great guesses. No one guessed his actual date or weight! Emiley was closest on his weight. Emiley, Jessie, and Aleta were all within one day of his birth date. So, Starbucks cards for all of them! (Email me with your mailing address and I’ll get your prizes sent off!)
