Our county is under a burn ban, and there’s a fine for any private fireworks this week. But, lucky for us, we had a planned public display at the Gibson County Fairgrounds last night (LINK). Don’t worry, the fire department was there in spades, and they had taken extra precautions by wetting the ground where the fireworks were being launched.
In no particular order, here are some of my favorites from the evening.
This was the first time I played with the Manual setting on my camera.
Apparently, adjusting aperture, focal length, and shutter speed are important for photographing fireworks well.
(Don’t ask me what those words mean. I’m still working on figuring it out.)
Did I get there? Well, I’d say these are better than some I’ve taken.
I used the “bulb” setting for shutter speed, and kept the shutter open for a longer time to capture some of the movement in the fireworks.
I didn’t have a tripod, so some of the movement may have been me, and not just the light. (But a little bit of blur can be “artistic,” right?)
Overall, I’m pleased with my photographs from the night.
Here’s a bonus – a video of part of the grand finale.
And, we had plenty of homemade ice cream to go around! All in all, a successful 4th of July!
